The Health Bureau called for the implementation of the five steps of handwashing to prevent enterovirus.

Enterovirus is highly contagious and can spread through feces, droplets, and contact. Family members or young children should adhere to the five steps of "wet, rub, rinse, clean, and wipe" for effective handwashing to prevent enterovirus infection. Also, implement washing hands with soap before and after eating, before and after games, after going to the toilet, after blowing your nose, and before and after seeing a doctor, and choose outdoor leisure activities to avoid getting caught by the enterovirus.

As per the Health Bureau, young children face a heightened risk of contracting enterovirus, which can lead to severe complications. When they have drowsiness, unconsciousness, poor activity, shortness of breath, rapid heartbeat, muscle twitching (unreasonable fright or sudden muscle contraction of the whole body), continuous vomiting, and other severe precursor symptoms of enterovirus, please go to a large hospital for medical treatment as soon as possible care to avoid missing the golden time for treatment.
Tzu-Chan Tseng, the Director of the Health Bureau, has emphasized a three-step approach to prevent enteroviruses infections. The first step is that the enterovirus can handily spread among classmates or infect other young children when brought home. Therefore, schools and parents at all levels strengthen their advocacy for children to wash their hands frequently. The second step is to use a 500 ppm concentration of chlorine bleach for targeted disinfection that students often come into contact with object surfaces (doorknobs, desks, chairs, dining tables, and stair handles), toys, amusement facilities, bedding, and books. The third step is to ensure that students do not attend classes during illness, avoid contact with other young children, and enter and exit public places to reduce the risk of cross-infection with enteroviruses.
