An Enteroviros epidemic usually occurs between April and September or during summer. According to Taichung City Hall, there is one confirmed case in the city; it is a 4-month old male baby who is currently stable. Director of Health Bureau, Mr. Yong-nian Xu, emphasizes that the peak of Enterovirus epidemic is around the corner; parents must pay extra attention if there are children under 5 years old at home. The family members and caretakers of children should wash their hands properly and avoid taking children to public spaces. As for newborn children, they should avoid physical contact with too many people.

The Health Bureau points out that, according to the data of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the number of school attendances due to enterovirus has declined to 2,685 visits from 2,732 visits, the attendance of the previous week. For the moment, there are 40 classes suspended.

Director of Health Bureau, Mr. Yong-nian Xu, indicates that according to the latest epidemic summary and prediction issued by the CDC, the peak of enterovirus epidemic is coming soon. To prevent severe cases, he advises that family members and caretakers of children under 5 years old should wash their hands properly and avoid taking children to public spaces. As for newborn children, they should avoid physical contact with too many people to avoid infection.

According to the Health Bureau, washing hands properly is one of the main precautions. To avoid spreading the enterovirus, after coming home from work, adults must change their clothes and wash their hands before touching children. Children, on the other hand, should wash their hands when they return home or before they eat. Meanwhile, the Bureau advises that the pregnant women should, on one hand, avoid physical contact with patients with enterovirus before and after delivering the baby and, on the other hand, pay attention to their own health other that of other children. If anyone has a fever, upper respiratory infection, diarrhea and muscle pain, etc., must notify the doctors and take precautionary quarantine methods.

The Health Bureau reminds that if a child at home is diagnosed with enterovirus, they must avoid physical contact with other children to prevent cross infection. Parents should look out for signs and symptoms of the enterovirus. If anyone shows drowsiness, conscious change, fatigue, muscle weakness, myoclonus (frightened without reason or experience brief twitching of systemic muscles), continual vomiting, shortness of breath, tachycardia, etc., they should be sent to a major hospital immediately for proper treatment.
