Press Release for Unveiling of Rainbow Castle

  • Date: 2018-12-13
  • Issued by: Health Bureau

At 10:00 on November 4, the "Rainbow Castle," the first gay health community services station set up by the city government, held a press conference at the 1st floor lobby of Health Bureau to announce its opening. The plague-unveiling ceremony was jointly hosted by Xu Yong-nian (徐永年), Director-general of Health Bureau; Director Lin Ming-cheng (林明誠) and Commander Wang Ren-xian (王任賢) of Centers for Disease Control; Xu Sen-jie (徐森杰), Secretary-General of Taiwan Lourdes Association; Lin Shu-fan (林書帆), curator of the Taiwan GDi Association; and Fan Yong-le (范永樂), representative of Central Taiwan Student Gender Union.

Commander Wang Ren-xian noted that the establishment of community services station was like building a protection wall and prevention is always better than cure. Lin Ming-cheng, Director of Centers for Disease Control said that the Health Bureau of Taichung City Government offers a friendly space to establish an alliance for the public service, NGO, health care, and student groups.

At the press conference, the flag was passed from Centers for Disease Control to Health Bureau of Taichung City Government, and the NGO groups shared their experience in operation. Taichung City's services station is different from other gay health community services station in that it not only provides AIDS prevention counseling and screening, but it will become a multi-friendly clinic and move toward a recreational and consultative drug use.

Although small, the "Rainbow Castle" is quite cozy and provides gays, lesbians and transgender persons with health counseling. Its service time is 10:00-19:00, Monday to Friday and 8:00-12:00 every Saturday. Its contact phone number is (04) 25265394 * 6910.

Xu Yong-nian, Director-general of Health Bureau Director-general, said, “Although there are already Taiwan Lourdes Association and Taiwan GDi Association to provide leisure services to homosexual persons, we hope the establishment of ‘Rainbow Castle’ can make Taichung more friendly and healthy to them.”
