Policy Update – Free HPV vaccination to 7th grade girl students
Research shows that Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a major causative agent of cervical cancer, and the most proactive approach to prevent cervical cancer is to get HPV vaccinated. Taichung City Government has thus decided to have all the 7th grade girl students (or the 1st year girl students in junior high school) receive HPV vaccination free of charge, starting from year 2015. Medical teams will come over to each junior high school to carry out this fully subsidized program. It is expected that 12,800 girl students will be benefited.

Origin of the project
HPV vaccines are known to prevent types 16 and 18 human papillomavirus (HPV) from occurring and most effective if they are inoculated on young girls who have no sex experience and who have not been infected with human papillomavirus. The city government has thus decided to have the entire 7th grade girl students receive HPV vaccination free of charge, starting from year 2015.
